Box of wards with a key

Central Europe, 16th–17th century

Malleable iron Octagonal box of wards terminating in a half-domed tower with a brass cone finial. Inside are five rows of filed, soldered wards. The bow of the key is decorated with interwoven filed foliage ornamentation. Hollow shank with a ring collar, bit filed into a meander pattern.
